Event Announcement

Think Local First is bringing the film Asparagus! Stalking the American Life to the Michigan Theater on Wednesday January 28th at 7:15 pm. Admission is $10 and includes the opportunity to meet the director.

“For 30 years, Oceana County Michigan has been the Asparagus Capital of the World. Now its spear-struck residents and family farms take on the U.S. War on Drugs, Free Trade and a Fast Food Nation, all to save their beloved roots.”

Praise for Asparagus! Stalking the American Life:

"Oddly Brilliant!" - New York Magazine

"This subtle but powerful film unveils intricate connections among community identity, family farming, national politics and international trade, while at the same time revealing the aplomb and good cheer of these indomitable, spear-struck Michiganders" - Full Frame Documentary Film Festival

"A Charmer!" - Kansas City Star

This is a fundraiser for Think Local First and a wonderful opportunity to learn what a Michigan community did facing adversity. Following the film, the director Kirsten Kelly, will update the audience about what has happened since the film was completed. She will also be available for a question and answer session.

Come support your local economy, Think Local First and the asparagus community! If you are interested in food, you will be interested in this film!
